Endoscopic surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and colon polyps is of crucial importance. Nevertheless, the endoscopist has to be aware of high miss rates of non-polypoid lesions (formerly known as “flat lesions”), especially in the right colon. Recent developments in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy have now enhanced our approach of diagnosis and therapy in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and colon polyps. These new developments include special endoscopes, dyeless chromoendoscopy techniques, and new wide-field biopsy techniques. The topic of this lecture is to introduce these advanced endoscopic imaging techniques to the audience.
